RoboCop 2 (1990)

Director: Irvin Kershner
Starring: Peter Weller, Belinda Bauer, John Glover
Synopsis:
RoboCop fights to keep the streets safe from a drug kingpin amid a police strike and looming bankruptcy of the city.
Impressions:
While this follows the all too familiar pattern of the inferior sequel, it does at least feel like an organic extension of the original. This isn't as good as the first one but it's not all that bad. There are some interesting character elements, which is what you'd expect with Irvin Kershner at the helm (and this was unfortunately his final feature film). Peter Weller gets to show a little more range, which expands on the character of RoboCop some. Tom Noonan is okay as main villain Cain, but he pales in comparison to Kurtwood Smith's Boddiker. Gabriel Damon (frickin' Littlefoot!) is kinda interesting as evil kid Hob. Dan O'Herlihy shows a stronger villainous side of "the Old Man" of OCP, which is pretty cool, and Belinda Bauer also held some interest as Dr. Faxx, a psychiatrist with serious bioethical lapses. Note the small but visible role by Mark Rolston (Drake from Aliens) as one of the cops. The satire is clumsier, the action is so-so, and the effects are a bit of a step down, but this movie won't assault your senses. If you really liked the first one, I think you'll still have reason enough to watch this.
